Mrs. Jill Christensen
Mrs. Christensen is in her 35th year of teaching at PHS. She graduated from Lennox High School in 1979 and Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, in 1983. While at NWC, she earned a BS degree in secondary education with a Mathematics major, Physical Education minor and a career concentration in coaching. She was a multi-sport athlete, participating in basketball and softball, while at NWC.
Jill is presently teaching 7th & 8th grade Math, and Geometry. Her extracurricular duties include coaching the high school volleyball team and assisting with both the high school and junior high track teams, as well as the junior high and high school Quiz Bowl teams.
In July of 2016, Jill was inducted into the SD High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She was also a Finalist in volleyball for the National Coach of the Year in June 2016. In November of 2010, she was inducted into the SD Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame. She currently ranks 1st in wins in SD Volleyball history. On August 30, 2014, her teams crossed the 700 win mark and on September 26, 2017, her teams crossed the 800 win mark. In 1995, she was inducted into the NWC Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1990, she coached the volleyball team to a 33-1 record and the State Championship. That same year, she was recognized as the SD Coach of the Year in VB and the NWC 'N' Club Coach of the Year. In 2012, her volleyball team broke the school record with 34 wins (34-1 and 3rd place at state). Her teams have been to 13 state tournaments, including 2009, '10, '11, '12, '14 , '15, '16 and '17.
Jill and her husband Doyle have been married 37 years. Doyle is a corn and soybean farmer in the local area. They have two children, April and Derek. April graduated from PHS in 2005 and then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) in 2009, double majoring in Mathematics and English. She graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville in May 2013 and finished a 3 year residency as Doctor in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt Hospital in June 2016. She recently completed a 1-year Fellowship in Palliative Care at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and is currently working on a Masters degree in medical education. Derek graduated from PHS in 2010. He graduated from the Raikes School of Computer Science and Business at UNL in May 2014. He graduated with his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering in December '14. He is currently working as an EE at Garmin in Kansas City. He married Kaitlyn on Sept. 3, 2016.
Hobbies include reading, crossword puzzles, putting puzzles together and watching sporting events.
