Welcome to Parker Elementary School!
Principal:Mrs. Janelle JohnsonEmail: janelle.johnson@k12.sd.us335 W. 1st StreetParker, SD 57053605-297-3456Title- We offer Title Math and Reading for students that need that extra one on one or small group help. This program is set up between the classroom teacher and the Title teacher. The focus is to help the student gain a better understanding of the content that is being taught in their classroom. The purpose of this title is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. For more information contact the school at 605-297-3456.
Special Education- Special education is the practice of educating students with special needs in a way that addresses their individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, accessible settings, and other interventions designed to help learners with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and community than would be available if the student were only given access to a typical classroom education. Students qualify for special education through testing provided by our own special education teacher and our educational Co-op. Once a child is identified as having a disability and needing special education and related services, we will develop an Individualized Educational Program, called an IEP. For more information contact the school at 605-297-3456.
PLC- The Parker Learning Center is before and after school care, Friday care (on specified days), and summer care program. The students will work on a variety of activities from homework completion to educational computer games to art projects. It is not all work as they will play board games, go outside to play, and on rainy days they have access to the gyms so they will still be able to run around and work off some energy. The summers are filled with the above as well as going swimming at the local pool, trips to the library, and an occasional field trip or two. Click here to see the PLC section of our website for more information.
Tutor Time/9th Hour- This is an after school program that runs until 4:30 daily when school is in session. This is for students that need extra help on their homework, homework completion, or just a quiet place to work. We typically have a certified teacher running this program to assist the students with their needs. This is a very popular program for students at all levels grade K-6. For more information contact the school at 605-297-3456.
Friday Help Days - As a part of the 4-day week, some Fridays have been made available for students to come in during the morning for extra assistance. This can be recommended or requested by the teacher, parent, or student. Help day has become an invaluable time for teachers to work closely with students by providing assistance to a specific need. This is not just for struggling students, the one on one or small group setting can also be used as enrichment time for high-achieving students. For more information, contact the school at 605-297-3456.
